Patrick E. Cermak

President, Chief Operating Officer

Pat has more than 30 years of experience in the building industry. He joined Wight in 2001 in the business development sector, and the company has grown steadily under his leadership. Today he is responsible for the daily operations of Wight’s offices and an extensive list of clients across the Midwest and on the East Coast.

Pat plays a significant role in business development efforts at Wight, assisting with client relations and strategy development. His meticulous attention to client needs has led to multiple long-term relationships with public- and private-sector organizations.

An effective and forward-thinking leader, Pat shapes and expands the business into new markets and regions. Pat’s commitment to enlarging Wight’s staff of talented professionals and continually enhancing their abilities to meet our clients’ changing needs has led to the establishment of Wight.edu. This in-house professional development program includes outside collaborators who provide training classes and educational presentations.

Pat’s visionary leadership has propelled Wight to the forefront of sustainable design and construction— the company follows a “shade of green” philosophy, incorporating appropriate sustainable technologies in all aspects of our projects. In support of the company’s environmental stewardship, Pat established the Sustainability Forum, an interdisciplinary group that promotes sustainability research, strategies, and training. The results of this group’s efforts can be seen throughout the company’s LEED-Certified offices and campus.

Pat currently serves on the board of directors for the Chicago Sinfonietta and is a member of their executive committee. He also is a member of the board of directors of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and sits on their public policy committee. He is a member of the Design-Build Institute of America, the Design Futures Council, the Society of American Military Engineers, the Metropolitan Planning Council, and the City Club of Chicago. Pat earned a bachelor of arts in education from Benedictine University.
