Wight & Company was chosen by the Illinois Department of Transportation to carry out Phase III engineering services of the I‐55 / IL‐59 Interchange project. These services included on‐site inspection followed by identification of beneficial design changes, geotechnical inspection and testing, report preparation and document management, and submission of pay estimates and change orders. Phase III services for a project of this magnitude were no small feat, with the project including construction of: a new elevated signalized intersection of IL‐59, Seil Road, the northbound ramp, and the southbound ramp; a retaining wall along the south side of Seil Road; and auxiliary lanes along I‐55 between the IL‐59 interchange and the I‐80 interchange. The project also involved the widening and reconstruction of both IL‐59 and Seil Road, the reconstruction of the retaining wall at DuPage River Bridge Road, the removal of the existing northbound IL‐59 exit ramp flyover bridge and construction of a new flyover bridge, and the relocation and reconstruction of both East Frontage Road and the I‐55 / IL‐59 interchange ramps.
