Creating a new image for an existing elementary school in a residential neighborhood.

Westmoor Elementary School
Northbrook School District 28
Northbrook, IL

Northbrook School District selected Wight & Company to provide architecture and engineering services for a major renovation to Westmoor Elementary School. The $9.8 million project includes a new 10,000 sf pre-kindergarten Early Childhood and Extended Day Kindergarten classroom addition, a new secure main entry and administrative office addition, and a new Library Media Center. We designed the building to be more inviting by modifying the roofline and incorporating a green roof, adding trellis accents at classroom and entry windows, and allowing daylight to penetrate further into the classrooms.

Visualization Tools

The design process for the renovation of Westmoor Elementary utilized visual communications tools, including 3D modeling and augmented reality, to help Northbrook School District more accurately imagine what the completed facility would look like. These tools gave “life” to our design concepts and allowed the client and community to explore possibilities of what the future might hold for the project.
