Mark Wight
Chairman and CEO

Established in 1939 by Col. Raulin Wight as a land surveying firm in Downers Grove, Wight & Company has grown into one of the top-ranked design firms in the country—attracting national attention as a leader in sustainability and integrated project delivery.

“Our legacy has been built on our ability to form strong connections – most especially with our clients but also with our colleagues, industry partners, and the community in general,”continued Wight. “Those connections – and the link to our past – have more todo with our success than anything else. This is still a ‘people business’ that is built on trust.”

Wight’s Legacy

Now in its third generation,Wight & Company has evolved throughout the decades. After returning from military service in the early 1940’s, Col. Wight added civil engineering to the company’s line of services. Building upon its first two decades of successful planning and design of several suburban municipalities and roadways, the firm added architecture to its list of capabilities when “Sonny” Wight, AIA, joined the firm in the 1960’s. Sonny’s entrepreneurial spirit led the firm to become a prominent architecture and engineering firm in rapidly expanding DuPage County.

During this time Wight & Company’s area of concentration focused on transportation, higher education and library assignments.

By the 1980s, the firm further diversified its services by adding environmental consulting. In 1986,Mark Wight joined the firm. Like his grandfather and father, Mark’s entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen fueled the firm’s continued growth – allowing it to expand into the K-12 education and municipal markets, while also growing its geographical reach. In the mid-1990’s, the company took on the challenge of becoming one of the first design firms to offer in-house construction services, thereby providing a truly integrated end-to-end delivery model.

“Wight pioneered the conceptof integrated delivery years ago,” explained Wight. “Design excellence lies at the heart of what we do, but design isn’t an island. From the start, our designerswork in concert with the team charged with ultimately delivering on the vision. Our clients can immediately see and feel the benefits of this connection.”

“We see our 75thanniversary as a forward-looking celebration,” concluded Wight. “We will honor the firm’s history of success and leverage this milestone as a foundation on which to write the next chapter of the Wight story. I’d like to thank our clients, colleagues and partners, all of whom have played a vital role in making Wight the firm it is today.”
