The Public Building Commission (PBC) was engaged to provide project delivery services for the 2013 School Investment Program (SIP) on behalf of the Chicago Public Schools. The nearly 100 facilities included in the program were bundled into 17 discrete design-build projects based on geographical proximity and similarity of scope of work to be delivered. Under this program, PBC awarded one of the project bundles, which called for renovation of nine city schools during the spring and summer of 2013, to Wight & Company.
Our team designed, engineered, permitted, and bid the work within six weeks; construction at each of the schools was completed in time for the first day of class in the fall of 2013. The assignment included two major $5 million renovations at Ryder and Gresham Elementary Schools. These two schools also required phased asbestos removal, major mechanical and electrical upgrades, elevator tower additions, and ADA renovations in all common areas, including restrooms.
