Wilton Industries, a leader in baking and cake decorating supplies, commissioned Wight & Company to provide a program needs assessment as the basis for evaluating their real estate options. The initial study, which included over 26 departments in three separate buildings, resulted in a Space Needs Assessment database that inventoried over 100,000 sf of space. Following test fit planning in several locations, Wilton decided to renew their lease and make improvements to their existing facilities.
The projects that followed were: a new test kitchen in their Midpoint facility and a remodeling and expansion of the Wilton School of Cake Decorating & Confectionary Art, a stand-alone facility in a retail shopping mall. In addition to doubling the School’s capacity, the design included updating the lunchroom and restrooms. In the teaching spaces, custom drying racks for decorative floral frosting items and ceiling-hung electrical spools to serve cake decorating islands were accommodated. The project also involved a complete overhaul of HVAC systems, including hoods.
The interior design featured embellishment of the Wilton brand to support its famous 80-year reputation for its decorating technique called the “Wilton” method.
