Wight has been working with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) for over a decade and has been involved in the construction of numerous individual projects, with a combined construction value of over $100 million. Projects have ranged from small-scale, renovate, paint, and repair assignments to large-scale annex and remodeling efforts, some of which were both designed and built by Wight & Company.
In the Spring of 2013, Wight & Company was awarded a contract to renovate nine CPS facilities as part of the School Investment Program (SIP), which was managed by the Public Building Commission of Chicago. The projects were successfully implemented before the start of the Fall 2013 semester.
Subsequently, Wight provided Construction Management services for Alexander Bell Elementary School. This project consisted of a new addition on the south side of the existing school and specific renovations on the interior of the existing 1900's building. The addition is a multi-story steel frame with a masonry and curtain wall exterior structure that accommodates a new kitchen and dining space on the first floor and new science lab, art room, and music rooms above. The architect of record was SMNG A (Schroeder Murchie Niemiec Gazda-Auskalnis Architects, Ltd.).
In addition, Wight Construction has completed a number of playlot conversions at CPS properties that are intended to bring green space back to public school sites.
