The BEQ was a pilot project for the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED rating system, the first LEED certified project in Illinois – and one of the first in the nation – to earn such a designation. This award-winning design also marked the first significant design-build project at Great Lakes and set the tone for all future facilities improvements at the base.
Wight & Company performed design, civil engineering and sustainable design services for the project which earned LEED Certification. The project included seven new residential buildings, each designed with suite-style dormitory rooms to enhance the sailors’ quality of life. Two buildings at the Naval Hospital were also included as part of this project.
