Wight & Company, an award winning Architecture, Engineering and Construction Management firm, is seeking a Sr. Transit Engineer/Project Manager for our Chicago office! Our Transportation Planning group in the Chicago office helps our clients solve problems in cost-effective and practical ways. Projects will include challenging and complex bus transit, rail transit, multi-modal, highway, transit-oriented development, and urban planning. Projects may include development of policies and programs. 


Success in the position will require ability to work in collaborative teams yet be a self-starter. The work environment requires dedication, flexibility, enthusiasm and analytical thinking focused on anticipating the needs of clients. The ideal candidate will lead engineering efforts and/or projects from conceptual engineering to final design in addition to selling our services to potential/existing clients.


Responsibilities

  • Manage transit engineering projects and lead engineering teams
  • Prepare concept designs for transit infrastructure projects
  • Prepare final plans and specifications
  • Provide oversight and design review for engineering teams 
  • Prepare design reports and technical papers
  • Prepare and/or support operating plans
  • Support capital and operating cost estimates
  • Support the preparation of planning and NEPA documents 
  • Develop client relationships 
  • Identify/pursue project opportunities


Qualifications

  • Illinois Professional Engineer license (or ability to obtain one within 6 months)
  • Engineering Degree
  • 15 years’ experience on transit engineering projects
  • Concept engineering through final design experience required
  • Strong knowledge of planning, design and construction integration
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessments
  • Experience with estimating a plus
  • Experience with environmental documentation (NEPA) is a plus
  • Passenger Rail and Bus Rapid Transit experience desired
  • Strong organization and time management skills required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Strong design to budget and schedule adherence skills
  • Strong marketing and leadership skills a plus
