At Wight & Company, sustainability is a core value that infuses our work and permeates our practice.

Our firm is at the forefront of sustainability, but we don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach. Because each client and project faces unique environmental and resource challenges, we tailor our solutions to align with individual sustainability goals and aspirations.

Guided by our Chief Sustainability Officer, Lois Vitt Sale, our professionals access and apply extensive knowledge and expertise across a diverse range of design and construction projects.

The Wight Sustainability Center of Excellence is a practice-wide think tank that develops sustainability standards to guide our teams in applying best practices in project Design & Delivery. We also have extensive experience implementing LEED and other green building rating systems.

Clients benefit from our expertise in integrating sustainability throughout a building’s full life cycle—from planning and design to construction and operations. And human health and wellness are fundamental priorities integrated within all of our solutions.

A Sustainability Pioneer and Innovator

Wight & Company has been an active contributor to the green building movement for decades.

A founding member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), our firm was the first to earn Green Firm certification from the Sustainable Performance Institute. We provided integrated design and construction services on one of the nation’s first LEED certified buildings, designed and built the first LEED–certified school in Illinois, and have contributed to numerous other innovations.

We are currently working on three net zero projects and have a portfolio of nearly 80 LEED registered and certified projects, and we employ more than 60 LEED Accredited Professionals who bring their specialized green expertise to each project.

We also embrace sustainability within our own operations, using our offices as a living laboratory for new products and technologies before we introduce them to our clients.

Whether it’s testing new technology for daylight harvesting or cultivating a prairie restoration project to add native vegetation to the landscape, we’re always learning and exploring to advance sustainability innovation for our clients.

Ultimately, we’re driven by a commitment to continuously raise the bar on sustainability so that buildings function efficiently, responsibly, and as part of an integrated community.
