Transportation Construction Engineer

 

Skills/Competencies
The Construction Engineer serves as the company representative at the work site to ensure that the work performed by the contractor is in accordance with the plans and specifications. May work with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Tollway, City of Chicago, Metra, various Municipalities and Sub Consultants. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring the progress of contractor’s work
  • Maintaining Quantity Book
  • Upkeep of Daily Logs and Contractor Logs
  • Conducting weekly progress meetings
  • Measure/record quantities in place
  • Resolve RFIs

Qualifications   

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering
  • P.E. License preferred
  • Will need to pass IDOT Documentation class
  • 2-10 years’ experience with the concepts and practices within the construction engineering field.
  • Proven ability to act in a supervisory capacity on projects
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify conflict/discrepancies within documents
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with CAD and other software packages associated with construction engineering
  • Water supply and/or rail construction experience preferred
