The 2020 Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards acknowledged "its thoughtful design that, in form and function, meets the needs of its diverse users" in naming The Hatchery as the recipient of The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Outstanding Non-Profit Neighborhood Real Estate Project.

The selection committee highlighted the "entrepreneurial ingenuity" of Allies for Community Business (formerly Accion Serving Illinois & Indiana) and the Industrial Council of Nearwest Chicago (ICNC) in East Garfield Park where The Hatchery is leading a revitalization of food culture and shared communal spaces. Wight & Company was proud to have partnered with IFF/Allies for Community Business/ICNC as the design architect for this anchor institution in the community.

Essential to the long-term viability of the project are the educational and training components that come along with the physical transformation of the area. An on-site Culinary Training Program, lead by chef Rick Bayless, is training the next generation of chefs for careers in some of Chicago's top restaurants.
