A vibrant city icon of art, nature, and innovation.
City of Chicago
1/1
The Chicago Riverwalk Confluence project aims to extend the Chicago Riverwalk with a vibrant area and iconic public space that fosters community engagement and enhances the local tourism experience. The location of the Confluence project is between Franklin Street and Lake Street on the south side of the Chicago River. The Confluence design centers around three main areas: The Grove, The Stage, and The Ribbon. The combination of these areas seeks to create an accessible, nature focused, and multi-functional destination that celebrates the natural history of the region while providing opportunities for cultural and artistic events, solidifying the Confluence as a hub for recreational and social activities connecting Michigan Avenue to the Near West Side.
The heart of the project is an innovative and captivating ramp designed to become an iconic landmark within the landscape of the city. This ramp, referred to as “The Ribbon”, will serve as a focal point from the upper levels of the surrounding buildings, adjacent Green/Pink CTA trains, and river boat traffic while encouraging increased foot traffic to the west end of the Riverwalk. Attracting tourists and locals alike, its distinctive design, paired with state-of-the-art lighting and the unique views it will offer of the city, will contribute to its allure and ensure its status as a must-visit destination. The Chicago Riverwalk Confluence project represents a transformative initiative that extends the existing Riverwalk and capitalizes on the site’s natural assets to create a vibrant and iconic public space.
