Wight provided Cook County Part A (Phase I) design services for the proposed widening of approximately 1,200 feet of Central Avenue (a minor urban arterial under Cook County jurisdiction) at Southwest Highway (93rd Street) for a new auxiliary left-turn, to mitigate the high number of accidents at this intersection. The study included an accident analysis using three years of data provided by the Village of Oak Lawn, taking manual and machine traffic counts to determine peak hour traffic patterns, and coordinating with CMAP to determine future 20-year traffic projections. This data was used to determine the design year LOS using HSC software. The peak hour traffic data was also used to perform a traffic signal warrant analysis using MUTCD warrant criteria.
