Director, Sustainable & Healthy Environments

For over two decades, John has helped clients shape strategies that advance health, sustainability, and resilience in the built environment. As Director of Sustainable & Healthy Environments, he brings a holistic understanding of the connections between people, nature, materials, and the systems that shape our buildings and communities. Working alongside architects, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, and owners, John integrates sustainability and wellness principles throughout the design and construction process to create meaningful, measurable outcomes.

A nationally recognized leader in sustainable design, John is a LEED Fellow, WELL Faculty, member of the WELL Materials Concept Advisory, Living Future Accredited professional, Fitwel Ambassador, and Living Building Challenge auditor on behalf of the Living Future. He has also earned the Sustainability Excellence Associate (SEA) credential. His expertise focuses on health in design, including indoor air quality, material health and transparency, biophilic design, energy performance, embodied carbon, and regenerative design strategies.

John’s work has contributed to over 100 LEED, WELL and Zero Energy projects, including the world’s first dual-certified LEED v4 Gold and WELL Gold project, and the first WELL Platinum High School. Through his leadership, design and construction teams, corporate and education clients, and industry partners are empowered to advance positive change within their projects, organizations, and communities.

Beyond the built environment, John’s passion for healthy ecosystems extends to his role as a backyard beekeeper as well as maintaining the beehive at Wight’s Darien office—an ongoing reminder of the vital connections between nature, people, and place.
