As leader of Wight & Company’s Transportation & Infrastructure practice, Pete continues to uphold the firm’s long tradition of engineering excellence. His 35-year track record of successfully managing transportation and infrastructure projects for private and public clients enables him to understand the client’s perspective. Under his leadership, the firm’s engineering team has developed procedures to efficiently partner with permitting/regulatory authorities and utility companies to facilitate successful projects. Pete’s knowledgeable and thoughtful approach to engineering includes embracing sustainable engineering practices.
Dirk brings to Wight & Company not only a distinguished career of excellence, but also a rich family legacy of architectural innovation. Dirk studied architecture under the tutelage of his grandfather, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and worked closely with Mies on projects such as the New National Gallery in Berlin, the Chicago IBM office building, and the Toronto Dominion Center.
Over his lifetime, Dirk has produced an impressive portfolio of design solutions, including the McDonald’s Corporate Headquarters Campus, the John G. Shedd Oceanarium, the Soldier Field stadium expansion and renovation, and many other national and international projects of note. Dirk’s presence at Wight & Company enhances the architectural innovation that Wight strives to bring to every project.
Vice President, Government Programs
With more than four decades of design and construction industry experience, Steve oversees business development activities and client relations for Wight & Company’s local government projects. He is actively involved in new business growth initiatives, strategic client relationships, proposal development, and project planning. Steve also leads the firm’s efforts to pursue Public Private Partnership (P3) projects in multiple states. With a keen understanding of municipal and public market challenges, he works closely with clients to understand what matters most to them, and then collaborates with the design team to advocate for those goals.

Jason specializes in exploring and solving complex design, urban planning, and construction challenges. His project experience encompasses numerous building types and market sectors, including recreation, justice, education, municipal, industrial, commercial/office, and developmental land planning. Skilled in a range of project delivery methods, Jason’s sustainable design expertise includes leading a LEED Platinum certified project and several LEED Gold certified projects. He is recognized for his commitment to understanding client needs and keeping their best interests at the forefront of projects as they progress.
Director of Cost Management, Chief Estimator

With nearly 30 years of construction estimating experience, Randy is skilled in understanding the specific cost information required throughout a project’s design and preconstruction process. He collaborates with design teams to manage scheduling and cost estimating support and constructability reviews. Randy’s expertise in budgeting and detailed estimating helps clients to make more informed decisions. Additionally, his attention to detail assists project teams in ensuring that all aspects of a project progress as efficiently as possible.
Floyd D. Anderson
With more than 35 years of experience as an architect, Floyd has developed a philosophy and work ethic that is very personal, proactive, and client-focused. A proven director of successful design projects that are both large in scale and complex, his portfolio includes urban planning, as well as commercial, academic, residential, and hospitality sector expertise. In his role as a senior leader of the firm, Floyd oversees design projects to ensure a consistently high level of design integrity and innovation.
Executive Vice President, Director of Design
Kevin oversees the creative direction for Wight & Company’s design work, including master planning, facility programming, concept design, conceptual systems integration, and interior architecture. With nearly 40 years of experience, he is a recognized leader in the design of education, government, and justice facilities. Kevin specializes in the planning and design of complex institutional projects that require an intricate technical understanding of spatial organization and user requirements. He began his Wight & Company career in 1973 as the firm’s first student intern, and Kevin’s thoughtful, charismatic style continues to delight clients and endear colleagues.
Richard Van Zeyl

With nearly 20 years of experience, Rich provides project leadership—from design through implementation—across the spectrum of mixed-use developments, including residential, retail, and office, as well as educational facilities and recreation centers. He is particularly adept at working with clients during the early stages of a project through zoning, entitlements, and conceptual design, to maximize the best use of a property. Rich is a member of the AIA, a LEED AP, a licensed architect, and holds architectural degrees from the University of Illinois and Georgia Institute of Technology.

With more than 20 years of experience designing education projects, Craig brings a highly collaborative management approach to all assignments. Through focused dialogue and an emphasis on environmental stewardship, he creates design solutions that express the unique qualities of stakeholders and demonstrate a keen sensitivity to the needs of 21st century learners and educators. Beyond his passion for creating thoughtful educational spaces, Craig is also committed to cultivating the next generation of design talent.

Throughout his 25-year career, Sudesh has honed his expertise in the design of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems. His experience includes control systems, energy analysis, life cycle cost analysis, and electrical infrastructure for commercial and institutional projects. As leader of Wight & Company’s MEP Engineering group, his responsibilities include project engineering design and project management for education, laboratory, residential, municipal, and corporate facilities. Sudesh is detail-oriented and passionate about engineering.
Vice President, Project Executive
Jim leads a variety of public and private design and construction projects. He is experienced in all phases of project development and delivery, with an emphasis on managing large, complex assignments. Jim’s knowledge of budgeting and scheduling enables him to clearly define a project from its earliest phases to assure clients that their goals and expectations are met. Highly collaborative, he is skilled in the execution of renovation and expansion projects with minimal impact to operations, as well as in the integration of detailed construction logistics and phasing plans early in the design process.

Terry has more than 30 years of experience in architecture and project management, across a broad spectrum of project types and sizes. Since joining Wight & Company in 1997, he has collaborated on more than 50 projects for educational and government clients. These engagements have provided him with a deep understanding of client needs and the importance of the consensus-building process. Thoughtful and well respected, Terry is a past president of the AIA Northeast Illinois Chapter and currently serves as a member of the AIA NEI Board and the AIA NEI Committee on the Environment.

A University of Michigan alum, Danielle has 12 years of architectural design experience. She brings a thoughtful design background to her work with clients in the governmental, education, hospitality, and private sectors. Since joining Wight & Company, Danielle has been an integral member of the team designing the new Will County courthouse in Joliet, Illinois. Danielle is a licensed architect, LEED Accredited Professional, and NCARB Certified.

An accomplished architect and designer, Janet has more than 35 years of experience serving clients in the commercial, corporate, education, and retail sectors. By providing strategic oversight and contributing her expert knowledge in workspace strategies on projects, Janet delivers dynamic solutions that drive business results for clients. Her design talent, work ethic, and focus on long-term relationships earn Janet the trust of her clients.
Director of Parks & Recreation
Having devoted his career to creating places for kids, families, and communities to play, learn, compete, and connect with the outdoors, Bob heads Wight’s Parks & Recreation practice. He has led clients and teams through comprehensive master planning processes and the design and construction of over $20M of spaces for both active and passive recreation. From indoor facilities, athletic fields and complexes to play environments, trails, and unique uses such as skate parks, Bob knows what matters to recreation providers as they develop and implement their capital improvements programs. As a collaborator who delivers inventive and cost-conscious solutions, he has helped secure over $10M in funding for his clients.
Lois Vitt Sale
Senior Vice President, Chief Sustainability Officer

Lois leads Wight & Company’s sustainable design initiatives and advances the firm’s commitment to offering clients the most effective sustainable solutions. Her work focuses on creating leading-edge sustainable facilities, formulating policies that promote and/or remove barriers to sustainability, and maximizing the environmental potential for projects. Lois’ advocacy efforts include serving as a national leader in the application of private and commercial green technologies and sustainable planning to the public and private sectors. She is a public policy advisor to elected officials and has participated in the development of policies to lessen the negative impacts of the built environment on health and natural resources.
Vice President, Director of Building Engineering
Matt oversees structural design and management on projects ranging from small-scale assignments to large, complex projects. His expertise includes structural design, analysis, project coordination, and project delivery. With a down-to-earth, congenial approach, Matt’s project experience includes the design and renovation of educational, municipal, and other public buildings; low-rise, mid-rise, and high-rise office buildings; hotels, residential, healthcare, mixed-use developments, parking structures, and warehouses.

A key member of Wight & Company’s PK-12 education practice, Rick has more than 30 years of experience as an education architect. He is passionate about collaborating with clients to create dynamic, student-centered spaces. Rick is recognized for his ability to lead clients through the complex decision-making process that occurs during the planning and design process. An exceptional team leader with his finger on the pulse of design trends within learning environments, Rick’s projects have earned ongoing recognition from educational organizations.
Michael C. Barnes
Design Principal, Library Practice Leader

An established and recognized expert in the design of libraries, Michael has been responsible for award-winning library designs for communities such as Elmhurst, Orland Park, and Des Plaines, Illinois. With over 30 years as an architect, his experience is not limited to libraries: his breadth of design experience includes museums; multi-unit residences; corporate and commercial structures; religious and academic buildings; and cultural facilities such as at Ravinia Festival. Michael has also served as Visiting Instructor of Architectural Design and is a repeat Visiting Critic at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Kathy has 20 years of experience in human resources, benefits, and recruiting. Prior to joining Wight & Company in 2010, she held human resources positions at two Chicago law firms and spent 13 years in the banking industry, where she gained experience in recruiting, employee relations, benefits administration, and retirement plan administration. Friendly and caring, Kathy is known for her commitment to meeting staff needs.

As a graduate of Architecture from the University of Michigan, Lisa has an Architecture and Interior Design career that spans 20 years. She brings deep experience in a variety of architectural markets including higher education, libraries, government, corporate Interiors, and hospitality. She is capable of managing, collaborating, and implementing both technical architecture and interior design. She specializes in furniture selection and procurement with focus on universal principles of design. Notable projects include the Langham Chicago Hotel lobby renovation and the Illinois Institute of Technology Armour College of Engineering – John T. Rettaliata Center renovation.
Senior Vice President, Strategy & Development
Since joining Wight & Company in 2000, Brad has played an instrumental role in the evolution and growth of the practice. A core member of the firm’s management team and the Practice Leader for the PK-12 Education Market, he participates in the early planning stages of major educational projects and capital improvement programs. Brad is also actively involved in strategic client relationships, initial project planning, and new business growth initiatives across institutional markets. Because of his pivotal role in developing the firm’s education, government, and corporate practices, he is a major contributor to the future direction of Wight & Company.
As the designer of a diverse portfolio of mixed-use high-rise office, luxury residential, and hospitality projects, James' experience includes tall buildings in Asia and the Middle East, as well as several high-profile projects in the US and Chicago. His design work has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Interior Designers, and the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. James seeks to design for human comfort with sustainable practices. His design aesthetic draws upon materials to create light, transparent spaces that reflect, rather than conceal, the building's program. He earned his Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan.
Chairman, Chief Executive Officer
Mark is a third-generation owner of Wight & Company, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Col. R. B. “Sonny” Wight, PE, and his father, R. B. Wight, Jr., AIA. Exposed to the family business throughout his formative years, he joined the firm in 1986 as executive vice president and assumed full responsibility of the firm shortly thereafter. A forward-thinker, Mark is constantly anticipating the future of the industry and continues to position Wight & Company at the forefront of emerging trends.
An active contributor to the community, Mark serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Glenwood Academy, and he is on the board of the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture. He also sits on several corporate boards. Mark is an active participant in professional enrichment organizations and is a former Chairman of the YPO Gold Euro Chapter and a member of the Chief Executives Organization.
Vice President, Director of Land Development
For more than 35 years, Byron has collaborated with recreation, education, institutional, and corporate clients to address their site and land development needs. His experience includes the planning and design of athletic fields; vehicle and pedestrian circulation; parking lots; and playgrounds and open spaces. His mission is to integrate site design, building design, stormwater management, and landscape amenities into a land aesthetic that complements campuses, neighborhoods, and communities. Byron also is committed to advancing sustainable site design and educational outreach.
Chief Financial Officer
With 30 years of accounting experience in the public and private sectors, Carol oversees all aspects of Wight & Company's finances. Her previous experience includes construction, manufacturing, and not-for-profit organizations. Known for her funny, kind, and friendly demeanor, Carol is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Illinois Certified Public Accountant Society.

With nearly 30 years of construction management and resident engineering experience, John actively manages project staffing levels, overall project budgets, and all related activities for Wight & Company’s transportation projects. He has a strong track record of success, leading complex, multi-season transportation projects that include highways, streets, bridges, and railroads. A meticulous, process-oriented individual, John enjoys documenting his projects through photography.

With an architectural background that spans more than 25 years, Leanne’s expertise ranges from building design, facility analysis, and master planning to construction administration and project management. Her experience includes both new construction and complex, phased renovations. Positive client collaborations have equipped Leanne with a deep understanding of client needs and the importance of the consensus-building process. Her commitment to a project’s success extends throughout a client’s capital program — from strategic plan to ribbon cutting.

Pat leads Wight & Company’s daily operations, financial management, and client service in the U.S. as well as overseeing strategic engagements abroad. Under his forward-thinking leadership, the firm has steadily grown market share, expanded into new markets and regions, and diversified its portfolio. A skilled networker, Pat also plays a key role in business development, client relations, and strategy development. He has established many of Wight & Company’s people-focused initiatives, including the Sustainability Center of Excellence, an interdisciplinary group that promotes research, strategies, and training; Wight.edu, a comprehensive employee development program; and PLACES, a self-moderated community of the firm’s emerging professionals.

Jennifer leads Wight & Company’s marketing program. Her career spans more than 25 years of business-to-business marketing in a variety of industries, both for-profit and non-profit. Throughout her career, her focus has been on helping organizations develop effective marketing strategies to support their business goals. Communication in all its many forms…verbal and visual…is both a personal and professional passion. Jennifer is a member of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS).

Bill has over 20 years’ experience leading architectural projects from programming through occupancy. Bill specializes in architectural projects in the Federal market, including several office campuses for the General Services Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Bill also has extensive experience with both new construction and renovation projects with a wide variety of building types, including commercial, hospitality, institutional, and museum. His emphasis on creative and high quality design solutions positions Bill as an important member of the firm.
